I was curious about this. I have been recently diagnosed with Anxiety Disorder and I think I have been also diagnosed with Panic Disorder, but I am not sure. How many panic attacks does someone have to have to be diagnosed with Panic Disorder?

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.

But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called "St John’s Wort" – it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior – Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….

I suffer from panic attacks, and have a huge fear of rain/thunder storms. I can cope with the attacks, because I know that they will end, and a new day will begin. Tonite, we are expecting some bad weather. I cannot go online, or shower (this is what usually calms me) during this, so what are some things I can do? I always feel nauseas and have diahrea when my anxiety is high. If I take bonine and imodium a.d., will that help? What are some techniques that calm you? I have 4 small children, so I must be calm, but alert. Thanks all.

You sound like I was about 3 years ago. I still fear storms sometimes but not as bad. I take Lexapro and it helps me. The storms are not as bad as I usually fear. Find an activity to do with your children like a board game or sing and dance, just try to have fun. Don’t listen to people who say psychiatrist ruin your life. This is a real, sometimes serious problem. It was ruining my life by not getting the help I needed. Storms were not the only fears I had. It is terrible to live this way. Just remember, you cannot do anything about it, the storm will pass, try to be in the safest part of your house, say a prayer, God will take care of you. God doesn’t give us a feeling of fear, He wants us happy! God Bless and Take Care!

one of the side effects of a toprol is panic attacks. I read this after i had one and had an overwhelming sense of dread. I know it is prescribed FOR panic attacks. I want to know WHY it would CAUSE panic attacks in others?

Yes. Ask your Doc. maybe some additional potassium (vitamin K) and magnesium (Aspatate) would help with the panic and the palpatations.

I Have & Know Panic Attack Sympyoms But I Want To Know If I Have More Than I Thought

I used to have generalized anxiety as well as panic attacks. I went to the dr. who informed me that I was actually depressed from the sheer exhaustion of pretending that I was fine everyday when I was not. I was constantly dizzy and would have feeling of doom. As I saw the dr, he gave me Zoloft, and it did cure my attacks. I hadn’t had one in years. I came off of Zoloft in Sept of 07. I have had 2 times since then that the start of my panic came back. But since I knew exactly what was wrong with me so I didn’t allow myself to be scared as I knew exactly what was going to happen. For me this was a panic attack. (BTW the two starts that I have had after going off of Zoloft, of panic attacks, I was able to stop as I knew what was happening.) But this is what would happen to me. First I would lose the sensation of sight in my left eye only. There was a small spot that I just could not see. After that I knew that the next thing was I would start to have a feeling of numbness that would start in my hand and travel up my arm, then it would go into my throat and neck and tongue, and continue down only on my left side to my leg and foot. I sometimes would be this way for at least 10 minutes. I was so scared and thought that I had just had a stroke. But when I went to this particular Dr, he knew exactly what was happening to me. I just feel lucky that the Zoloft worked for me. I was 28 years old when I went on the Zoloft, and felt that I wanted to see what happened when I went off of it now. My decision had nothing to do with the new findings about depression drugs not working and making people suicidal at all. I just wanted to see where I was. Turned out to be the right thing for me. I still have Klonopin but it is used for each time I get anxious which is very little now. So I wish you luck!! Take care,

I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks and if I get a bad one, I notice at the ER that my blood pressure shoots through the roof. Nothing TOO high but it can go 130/140s and very close to 150s, and the lower number can go into the 100-110 range.

Is this something I should be highly concerned with?

It normally drops to like 100 over 60 afterwards when I’m sedated, and it never stays at that level, but it can shoot up there in a matter of MINUTES!

Should I be concerned, becuase none of my doctors seem to be at all, whatsoever,

but people on this message board go crazy if you mention anything over 120/80.

I n eed some true advice.

I just saw a cardiologist today and he didn’t seem the slightest bit concerned.

He didn’t do any extensive tests on me since I Had heart palpitations frequently, but im also sick, so maybe during illness its more normal?

He said the palps and the anxiety/panic high bp are nothing to worry about.

Is this true?
I also notice that SOME times my LOWER number seems to be the most dramatically increased, and other times its the HIGHER number.

What could cause the lower one to increase, and what would cause the higher?

idk but its certianly not good for you. i have social anxiety with panic attacks, it sucks im on prozac for it and it really helps.

I just found out I’m pregnant with my first child, and I am thrilled beyond words. But with every little pain and ache, I’m terrified that something is wrong with my baby, and I may lose it. Is this normal? Did any other new moms go through this during pregnancy? Thanks.

Completly normal!!! my advice…CHILLLLL…lol enjoy your pregnancy…dont worry unless and until there is a need to worry…aches and pains are your body’s way of prepairing its self.

good luck

I would like to go to the doctor to get blood work testing done to see if I have anything physical that’s triggering my panic attacks or What type of testing do I need to get done if I want to know if there is something physical causing panic attacks?

Perhaps your doctor can recommend a psychiatrist. They are medical doctors before studying psychology and are therefore aware of physical and mental disturbances and how they intertwine.

You may be checked for allergies by one or the other doctor.

BTW, flickering florescent lights in large warehouse type stores (like WalMart and Home Depot in the US) can trigger seizures and disorientation in some people.

You may want to keep track of when and where your attacks occur. This may help you pinpoint the problem.

Good luck to you.

You are a child of God.

Are panic attacks a symptom of depression?

Typically they go hand in hand. You would know if you had depression. Often times panic can lead to depression and vice versa. While panic attacks are completely harmless physically, they can cause a horrible mental and emotional strain on your life. Panic and anxiety is debilitating and can really decrease the quality of your life…thus leading to depression.

Sometimes i feel dizzy and i don’t know why
But my head spins the opposite way to the sky
Can’t sit down
Can’t stand up
Think i’ve run out of luck
huh

Last night i was trying to think of your name
But my head was still clouded and you were to blame
Where are you?
huh?
Where were you?

But what are the chances of you going nowhere?
And what are the chances of making you cry?

These panic attacks help me breathe into now
Breathe into now

These panic attacks help me breathe into now
My heart just skipped a beat this is it, somethings found,
I feel weak
I’m brand new
Who am I?
Where are you?
huh?

But what are the chances of you going nowhere?
And what are the chances of making you cry?

These panic attacks help me breathe into now
Breathe into now

Your girl – she’s far away
Your town – it’s far away
Your girl is far away
Never fear

These panic attacks help me breathe into now
Breathe into now…

Anxiety Disorders in Children and Teens

Anxiety BC – http://anxietybc.com/index.php

When anxiety causes distress or interference that is much greater than anxiety experienced by other children of the same age, it may be called an anxiety disorder. In this case, the term “disorder” simply indicates that the anxiety problem is significant enough and has lasted long enough (usually at least a number of weeks or months) to be considered a problem that warrants intervention. Commonly, children and teens experience anxiety problems that are characteristic of more than one anxiety disorder. Fortunately, the helpful approaches are similar for various anxiety problems.

If your child has been diagnosed as having a mild to moderate anxiety disorder, it will most likely fit into this list of seven anxiety disorders and subtypes:

Separation Anxiety Disorder
Specific Phobias
Social Anxiety Disorder
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Panic Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
