People get upset at themselves when they have panic attack symptoms.
They get the feeling that they should be in control of themselves and if they don’t have that control they feel stupid.
When you are having that “moment” that you slip into a panic attack don’t worsen the situation by hating yourself that you allowed this to happen.
Some people use the distraction method to try to take their mind of the panic attack symptoms their feeling.
Examples of distraction can be as simple as chewing gum or…
•Concentrating on thinking about pleasant feelings you have felt in the past by imagining that you are their or experiencing it while your having panic symptoms
•Concentrating on things that are immediatelly around you such as watching televisons or singing a song outloud
•Drinking water
•Tryin to talk to somebody
•Listening to music
•Bouncing a ball
•Moving around or doing very light excercises such as walking briskly
If your mind is really making you feel like your going crazy and you feel anxious, scared or you have an intense fear of dying, tell yourself that you have felt this way many, many times before and that you survived and this panic attack is no different.
If you are feeling heart palpitations tell yourself its because your body is releasing adrenaline into your bloodstream and it is causing you to feel the rush and tell yourself that this will pass.
Your panic attack symptoms will pass naturally so don’t try to end it because it will pass on its own.
When people are under stress there can be physical, emotional as well as cognitive reactions. Logical thinking can be disrupted, attention span can be decreased, and intrusive thoughts and confusion.
Its hard to keep expectations of yourself high but don’t let that get your self-esteem down. Accept your panic disorder and remember millions (yes millions) of people have panic attacks.

I always have panic attacks. How can I deal with them?

just know that they cna’t hurt you..do deep breathing..but mostly..just let it run it’s course through you. i find that helps best because when i get worked up it gets worse…so i just stay calm..just sit down and let it run it’s course through me. It’s scary but it always goes away…if you look at me you’d never know i was having a panic attack..i just stare at the tv or someting till it’s gone. But they say excersize is good..and when you can tell that one is coming just be lik,e "NO.. I AM NOT DOING THIS AGIAN." becasue you know it’s a panic attack. what your fearing is the actual attack. just know that it cannot kill you..it menas your body is healthy actually…because your body is responding to a danger that really is not there..i’m sure you know all about them..but basically they are a trait we have that would be used in cavemen day…when a wild buffalo or someting would charge them..the adrenaline goes makign them faster and stronger. Now days, we don’t have buffaloes chasing us but we still have the adrenaline and it goes off when we "feel" like there is a danger….your fine and why don’t you go to a counselor? they would help.

I have had anxiety since i was 16 and now am currently 25. I am pregnant with my first child and have become very stressed and anxiety ridden. I refuse to take any prescription drugs because they have adverse effects on the fetus. My friend who is an RN said it wouldn’t hurt the baby to smoke a couple of times while i was pregnant as long as it wasn’t excessive. is that okay?

and you don’t think that smoking pot wont hurt you baby your NUTS your friend needs to go find a new job and have her RN license taken away the pot will fu*k up your baby plus they will drug test you from time to time and if the find drugs in your system they will take your baby away

What causes people to have panic attacks?

Is this something that can be overcome?
Is there an underlying cause that is more serious?
Thanks for all of the input. I’m dating someone who suffers from panic attacks. I just wanted to understand where he is coming from.

Basically panic attacks are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain that causes the level of serotonin to be out of balance. What causes this to happen can be several things, though most researchers believe there is a definite genetic component involved. Attacks are usually triggered by an event, sometimes trauma, but at times it can be something so obscure that you feel they have come out of the blue.

Panic itself is normal and is our survival response to danger, often referred to as the fight or flight reaction. The difference is for people who have panic disorder, there is no apparent danger, but our bodies respond as if there were. We become even more confused when we do not see a danger and begin to assign danger to places or events that are in no way related.

Panic cannot be cured, once you have had panic disorder or anxiety or depression, you will probably always carry a possibility of a recurrence. The symptoms can be managed by medication and you can learn to change your response to the panic itself through therapy or, in some cases, self help so that you do not have to continue indefinitely on medication, though some people do.

The best book to learn about and manage panic disorder is The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook by Dr. Edmund Bourne.

i have recently started having small panic attacks, shaky hands, sweating lightheadedness/dizziness, increased heart rate, hyperventilation etc. i researched a little and noticed that these symptoms are very similar to those of hypoglycaemia, but my doctor did not mention any possibility of hypoglycaemia. my doctor gave me tablets to help the panic attacks but on the information leaflet (that comes with the medication) it states that the medication may mask symptoms of hypoglycaemia. now i do not know whether to take them or not. There is a good chance that im just beng paranoid. any suggestions? thanx

Tell your GP of your fears and get a test done, anxiety might be a problem too.

How do you help someone having panic attacks?

I know someone who has been having panic attacks for 2 weeks now! They have already been to the doctor and diagnosed now I guess it’s just a waiting game for the meds to kick in. Anyway since they have been having them she doesn’t want to be alone. If she is for the smallest amount of time then she freaks out. Should someone always be there with her or should she be better off getting over it herself? She feels as though she CONSTANTLY needs someone there during the day! Is this even normal for a panic attack?

mine used to be triggered by loud noises, and yelling.
i immediately felt safe every time i went into a hospital, and i went to the clinic so many times they eventually banned me from going there because they couldn’t help me.
i’d say get her to go outside, mine just eventually went away as i grew older. If she doesnt want to be alone, dont let her be alone! Get one of her friends to come over… family… it will go away, trust me. Yeah I’d say it’s normal.

i suffer with chronic anxiety but now everytime i have to take my child into school i start to tremble and feel so scared cos i have fallen out with some people there and i feel they are always ovserving me and so i start to get panic attacks and start to tremble with nerves and heart pounding,, i cant control it it comes automatically and i have to go and hide somewhere as i dont want to be made a fool of, how can i control this problem please i need some help

The fact that you had a difference of opinion with some people doesn’t mean that they dislike you. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion and it is ok to let people know what you think. Are you so special that people whichever move you make are wathing you? It might seem they do, but in reality most people have other things on their mind. Your turning this whole thing over and over in your mind before you go to school and than when you’re there with your child. This way you’re feeding yourself and your child negative thoughts, which become stronger and stronger. You haven’t done anything wrong. It was one incident that you have taken out of its proportions. Are you working on your chronic anxiety at the moment?
